So who am I and why should you consider anything I have to say? That's a great question!

Ed - The Garage Handyman

Let's get one thing straight right out of the gate. I am not some skilled tradesman or licensed contractor of any sort. I am just like you. A DIYer. A handyman. I have been working with my hands my whole life. As a kid, I started out building model cars, planes and rockets. I joined the Navy in 1975  and was involved in the maintenance and upkeep of naval special weapons. When I wasn't ensuring that our bombs would go boom, I was getting my hands dirty messing around with cars and motorcycles. I was then and still am a real gearhead.

I blame a lot of my fascination with DIY type projects on my DNA and HGTV. After watching some of the craftsmen on HGTV, I felt confident that I could do some of the same work and get similar results. Starting with my first home here in north Texas I began knocking out interior and exterior walls, installing windows and French doors, remodeling the kitchen and bathrooms, laying down tile flooring, rewiring electrical, rerouting plumbing, installing irrigation and rebuilding cedar fences. I continued taking on these sorts of projects and more in my next home. Through trial and error, YouTube videos and shows on HGTV, I got things figured out and thankfully kept all my fingers.

Every time I'd knock out a project my family and friends would tell me that I should start my own handyman business. The thought did cross my mind, but I just kept up grinding away in the corporate world, all while managing my DIY projects on nights and weekends. As retirement age approached, however, instead of playing golf or going fishing, I decided now was the time to use my experience as a DIYer and help folks with their projects on this platform versus becoming a contractor. Besides, I have no business trying to play golf and I never catch any fish. This is a lot easier on the back and knees too.

Below is a photo of my garage in my current home where I've already been creating some magic. Only been here a short time so it's not much to look at yet, but most everything I need to do the work I have planned is right there. If you check out the photos on the gallery page you'll find examples of the recent work I've completed here and work I completed on my previous home. Not having a dedicted workshop has never stopped me. I have a huge Honey-do list waiting for me on this place. A kitchen and master bathroom remodel, and laying down hardwood flooring are just a few of the projects I have to look forward to. Should be fun. I will be including pictures and videos of my progress and what I learn along with the products and tools I use so that I might be able to help you with some of your projects. So stay tuned.
